As you may know my mam and I spent a day at the beautiful Rainforest Spa two weeks ago, and yes me being me I am only getting around to writing a blog post on the beautiful day that we had now.
Roughly around this time last year at a Benefit night for Pieta house, I was lucky enough to win a voucher for a Swedish Massage at the beautiful and enchanting Rainforest Spa. The Rainforest Spa is located beside SummerHill House Hotel, in Enniskerry, Wicklow. The voucher was for one person, so as part of my Mam's birthday present I decided to bring her with me.
We went on Sunday, the 13th of May. It was the day after the incredible Darkness into Light 5K Walk, in aid of Pieta House, so we really needed to relax and chill after the emotional walk. However, that wasn't the main reason why we picked that date. The 13th of May is my Nana's birthday, so what better way to celebrate her than to spend the day with mam pampering ourselves.
From the minute we parked the car, we knew we were in for an absolute treat. It was a beautiful sunny day, which really highlighted the incredible views and scenes which you can enjoy throughout your time in the spa. From the minute we got into the reception area, we felt relaxed. The views, the surroundings, the furnishings, the music and the incredible fragrances. all helped to make us feel relaxed and grounded before the treatments even started.
When we arrived, we had to fill out forms regrading our treatments and personal information. The seating area was so calming and the receptionist (whose name escapes me), was extremely nice and helpful, as were all of the staff we met, which really made the experience for us.
My voucher was for an hour long massage, however there are so many other treatments and add on's available starting at as little as €15 which I highly recommend, as they really made the experience for us. The add on we opted for was an hour of relaxation and the use of robes and slippers. This was only €15 per person and it in included use of all of the facilities for an hour, the facilities being an outdoor hot tub, the sauna, the steam room and use of the whisper room which was a room looking out onto the beautiful view, in which you have to keep the talking level to a whisper so that people can enjoy some peace and quiet and some complimentary refreshments such as tea, coffee, water, nuts and dried fruit. For the majority of the hour we spent it in the new hot tub with a glass of bubbles, which really was the icing on top of the cake. Before our treatments started, we were 100% relaxed and ready to be pampered.
As mentioned above, my voucher was for a Swedish massage and Mam picked the Coconut Melt Massage. Although both were totally different massages and by different therapists, we both came out totally relaxed and refreshed. The products they use are incredible and feel amazing on the skin. Both were full body massages and lasted roughly an hour. I have never had a massage before, however Mam has and she said it was the nicest massage she has ever had.
Not only are the relaxation facilities amazing, but the shower room and toilets were just as mice and extremely clean. In the Whisper room, the refreshments were constantly topped up and there was always someone around if assistance was required. From start to finish, we felt at peace and calm, especially while out in the outdoor hot tub! It was so peaceful and although that date could have been very difficult for both mam and I, it was the happiest I have seen Mam in a long long time.
The spa offers so many treatments, something for everyone! They also offer packages with the Summerhill hotel such as 1 night's stay and spa treatments or spa treatments and afternoon tea. You can see all treatments and packages available on https://www.rainforest.ie/.
We had the most amazing time and we will definitely be back again. We really did not want to leave, with only 45 minutes away from home we felt like we were far far away from home, and we really didn't want to leave the zen bubble we were in! My mind and body both felt so relaxed and free from anxiety and stress after an amazing day there, and that feeling carried on for at least a week!
So go on, treat yourself or a loved one!
Love as always,
Happy Tuesday!! I hope you all enjoyed Halloween, back to normal now! A few people have been asking about my skin care routine and how my skin has a natural glow. So here is my skin care routine including my favourite products, you might need a good cleanse after all of the make-up and face paint from the weekend!!
Although I have been blessed with my mother's good skin and I only have one or two spots a month (more if I eat too much junk food!), due to my anxiety and depression the past year my sleeping pattern has been non- existent! As a result my skin was extremely tired and dull looking. Before I left work, I barely had a skin care routine, I washed my face with a face wash and moisturized, that was it! However with a lack of sleep I was looking extremely sick and ill. Although I was exhausted and feeling disgusting on the inside I wanted to hide it as much as possible. The past year I developed a bit of an obsession with beauty and skin care products and I have tried more brands than I ever knew existed! Although I have many different brands and products that I use for different things, recently have become obsessed with Boots' Botanics' 'All Bright' range. I use many different brands from No.7 to Lush Cosmetics to Clinique, but for half the price as some of these big brands, the Botanics' range works a treat and is extremely effective for an affordable price!
What makes the Botanics' range so good?
The Botanics' brand is made from natural extracts however each range has selected extracts and ingredients to help the range achieve the desired benefits for each skin type. The Botantics' brand achieves this as their scientists work together with plant experts at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew to hand - pick the correct extracts needed for each product and range. Each range is made for specific skin types, the range are:
1. Organic - Great for all skin types
2. All Bright - Best for normal to dry skin
3. Radiant Youth - Best for lines and radiance
4. Triple Age Renewal - Best for deep lines and wrinkles
5. Shine Away - Best for oily to combination skin
6. Ultra Calm - Best for sensitive skin
I use all of the products of the 'All Bright' range from the wash, cleanser, toner and to the moisturizer for my daily routine. Here are my top products from the 'All Bright' range that I use on a daily basis that help give my skin a bright natural glow and lift the dullness from my skin!
1. Cleansing Foam Wash:
I absolutely love this foam wash. It is soap- free meaning that it is not too heavy on the skin. It lifts away any make-up and impurities while leaving your skin cleansed and so soft! Although there is a scent to this product it is by no means over powering and it leaves the skin smelling and feeling brand new! The container is 150ml, however due to the texture you just need a tiny drop each time you use it so it lasts you much longer than some other face wash products. As the days get colder, your skin may become dry, this product will definitely help revive your skin and set you up for the day ahead! For €5.99 this product is well worth it and you will definitely see results also instantly!
2. Gentle Cleansing Cream:
This is definitely my favourite product from the range. This cleanser is a miracle worker as with just a few small drops onto some cotton wool, it easily removes your make-up. I have tried so many cleansers with the hopes of finding one that removes the toughest of make-up, such a gel liner, without you having to use half of the bottle and rubbing your eye a million times leaving you with half of the eyeliner gone and with dry skin. This product removes ANY make-up products from your face while leaving your skin so soft and bright looking, which is what we all need after removing our makeup after a long and hectic day, at least with this cleanser ladies we have a chance of looking half awake! Other than removing make-up, this cleanser removes any oils and impurities from your skin and it is definitely worth €5.99!
3. Refreshing Eye roll-on:
As I mentioned earlier, due to a lack of sleep and constant panic attacks, my skin can look very dull and without make-up I look so pale that people often ask if I am sick! The skin around my eyes is particularly bad as I constantly have dark circles under my eyes. Although I am tired a lot of the time due to a lack f sleep, I certainly don't want to show how tired I am! This serum has completely lifted my skin over a few weeks. The serum is quite light so your face does not feel like you have packed a lot of product onto it. The serum starts to work immediately as it immediately leaves the skin feeling cooled, refreshed and re-hydrated. This product is so easy to apply as it is a roll-on meaning that none of the product is wasted! Although it is slightly more expensive than the other products at €12.99, it is definitely worth it and it will last you for a while!
So there are my top three products from this range. As I mentioned earlier I use a lot of the products but these three are my top buys from the range, all of which can be purchased from Boots Stores nationwide. Although I have included the prices above, these products are often on special either half price or three for two, so keep an eye out and check them out for yourself. You won't be disappointed as your skin will be glowing!!
So for my birthday my best friend Ciara spoiled me absolutely rotten and surprised me with tickets to Rosie Connolly's Beauty Masterclass. For those of you who don't know who Rosie is, she a fashion and beauty blogger as well as a make up artist. We are huge fans of hers so when Ciara surprised me with tickets it is safe to say I screamed like a kid at Christmas!!
The Masterclass was held in Harvey Nichols Cafe in Dundrum shopping centre. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and a goodie bag from Harvey Nichols, a piece of heaven for every beauty fan! To say we were in awe of this woman is a complete understatement! From the minute she entered the room she was so friendly, bubbly, upbeat, down to earth and so passionate about beauty, make up and the room full of women sitting in front of her. For the next hour and a half she took us all through a step by step makeover using Stila products. It felt like we were all a group of friends and not at an event, it was such a relaxing environment which was all down to Rosie. She was so funny and if she made a mistake her changed her mind about the look she was honest and open instead of treating us like fans, she treated us like close friends.
After the Masterclass we all headed into the Harvey Nichols Department store for a closer look at the products Rosie used throughout the tutorial and for a chat with Rosie. Myself and Ciara were so nervous meeting this confident and beautiful woman who we admired so much. On our way up to meet Rosie Ciara encouraged me to speak to Rosie about my blog as from her snapchats and instagram posts Rosie too suffers from Anxiety. I didn't want to bother her or annoy her by talking about my blog, it was her night and I am sure she gets thousands of girls telling her about their blogs. When it was our turn to get our picture taken, I finally built up the courage to speak to Rosie about my blog and her reply was the most encouraging and eye opening one which I never expected.
Rosie told us that just before she left her house for the Beauty Master class she had a really bad panic attack. Myself and Ciara were so shocked to hear this as she seemed so confident and relaxed during her Masterclass. She told us that she suffers really bad and asked me to send her on my blog link as she would love to read it. She asked me if I suffer too but I was barely able to answer as I was slightly fangirling and also shocked by how honest she was about her anxiety. All I could think about is how brave this woman is to admit to two fans of hers how although she seems like she has it all together that she too experiences some moments of panic and anxiety, that she too is a normal person who has experienced grief and tough times. It is such a breathe of fresh air for people who are in the public eye to be so open about their experience with Mental Health issues. It shows that they too have a normal life and anxiety is something that they experience, that their life isn't as picture perfect as we like to think.
As I could barely speak Ciara told Rosie how the blog is doing well and how most of all it is helping me to get better and to learn how to cope with it. Later that night I sent her the link to my blog and she replied straight away saying that she would have a look and that she is glad the blog is helping! Even if she didn't have the time to read the blog or anything the fact that she is so busy with her career and her own life but yet she has all the time in the world for her fans, not only in terms of beauty but those who admire her strength and courage is amazing. The fact that she took the time to reply and acknowledge the blog was so huge for me, and it shows just how humble and down to earth she is.
The next few posts on her Instagram she spoke more about her anxiety and how she had been experiencing moments of panic lately. For me, it is hard to be so honest with you all about how I feel and about my down days, but for someone who has such a huge fan base it is such a brave and courageous thing to do and I have all the respect in the world for her. Sometime I have thoughts of giving up the blog and the fear of what people think about me haunts me from time to time, but meeting this beautiful and inspirational woman has encouraged me even more to keep going and to share more with you all in order to inspire you and help you the way that she has helped me.
So not only did I leave with loads of make up tips but I left with so much more respect for this gorgeous woman, she definitely is just like one of the girls and I can't wait until her next event!
Thanks Rosie for just being you!
This week's beauty buy we have nailed it with Barry M's Quick Dry, 'Kiss me quick' nail Polish. For this beauty buy we headed to our nail expert Katie for a Polish that will get our hands and toes through our holidays.
I hope you are having a good week so far!
Although we have not had a sunny summer this year in Ireland, we are still had a bit of a heat wave! It's was so warm for most of the summer yet the sun was nowhere to be seen and my poor hair is really feeling the effects of the heat!
I don't know about you, but during the summer my social life expands and I go for more coffee dates, nights out and meals out during the summer nights, so it is no surprise that between the natural heat and the added pressure of hair dryers, curlers and straighteners that my hair is extremely damaged! I usually allow my hair to dry naturally but with this heat I am finding that my hair skips curly and goes straight to a frizz bomb in just minutes when I leave it to dry naturally! As a result, I have been using the InStyler way too much and my hair is so weak, it is that bad that I am way to embarrassed to go to the hairdresser!
I headed to Boots this week for something to resolve this issue. I have used many products before and I haven't found the right one, until now! I stumbled across Original Root Simulator (ORS) Jojoba Oil. This product helps repair damage to your hair, scalp and helps prevent the nightmare that is split ends! Sounds too good to be true yeah? Well ladies, I have used this product three times since last Friday and I am amazed with the results! I forgot to take a before picture but trust the difference is unbelievable!!
ORS Jojoba Oil contains natural oils and a combination of both jojoba oil and sandalwood oil. The idea behind this product is that the combination of these natural oils soaks deep into your hair and helps to restore and revitalize your hair and scalp after continued use. The first time I used this product I did see results at the ends of my hair immediately once my hair dried, however I applied too much of the oil too close to my roots, therefore my hair was quite greasy. The oil spreads quite far so you just need a few drops each time you are using it. I would recommend working your way from the bottom of your hair upwards for best results. The product can be used as part of your shower routine, for scalp care or just as a hair treatment. ORS have various different hair treatment products that each achieve different outcomes which are all available in Boots store nationwide.
This hair treatment product comes in at €7.99 per bottle which is a very good price as although the bottle could be considered a small size, you only need a few drops per use which means that this bottle will last you a long time and hopefully help you restore your hair!
Let me know how you get on with this week's beauty buy!
Happy Sunday Everyone!
So a few people have been commenting and asking about my eye makeup from Wednesday night for my sister's Leaving Cert results. I did my makeup myself I would have loved to get my make up done professionally but money is tight as I am not working at the minute.
I have never been one of those girls who has a talent for beauty or makeup, to be honest while I was working I just didn't have the time to take an interest in it. However since I have left work it is something I am becoming obsessed with and I am taking time and pride in practicing different looks and perfecting them. I am by no means an up and coming make up artist but I am getting much better. So as some of you were interested in my eye makeup here is a step by step of how to recreate that smokey look and what products I also used.
First of all, complete your daily face routine of wash, cleanse, tone and moisturise. It is so important that your face is 100% cleansed before you add make up to it, not only is it extremely bad for the skin but there is only so much makeup can cover and your makeup will go on blotchy and may look dirty as ultimately your skin is dirty if you don't cleanse it. Then you add your primer. Primer helps to seal your pores, it softens the skin, it helps to give your makeup a smoother finish and it helps your makeup to stay on longer. The primer I use is Rimmel London's Lasting Finish Primer. I absolutely love this primer as it very light so it is not too heavy on the skin and I find that my makeup looks much more professional and lasts all night!
Next, I apply my concealer, foundation, more concealer under my eyes and then my powder. A lot of people do their eye makeup first in case the eye shadow goes everywhere. I prefer putting the base of my face on first, I just find it easier but it is 100% up to yourself. I use Maybelline Cover Stick Concealer, Rimmel London Match perfection foundation with SPF 18 and Rimmel London Stay Matte powder. What I love about the Rimmel range is that their products are top of the range high street products in my opinion but at an affordable price. They often have a three for two special offer on Rimmel Cosmetics in Boots stores so I always stock up on them. They are so easy to apply and they help give a beautiful finish!
Next I head onto my eyebrows. Excuse my eyebrows in these photos, they are definitely in need of eyebrow wax but I am holding off until a few days before my holidays! For both my eyebrows and my eyes I use Makeup Revolution Redemption Palette Iconic 3. You can order this palette online from http://www.makeuprevolutionstore.com/ or you can purchase it in Superdrug stores. I absolutely love this palette, there is such a selection in the one palette from matte to shimmery eye shadows and the pigments are just amazing! This is definitely my Beauty Buy of the week. It is so affordable in store for just under €6.00!
You can create either a brown, bronze or black smokey eye, it is entirely up to you. In this look I created a black smokey eye with a hint of pink. To create this smokey eye look I start with the first colour on the left, it is a brilliant base colour. I apply it to both the lid and the crease in my eye. Having a neutral base allows the other colours you apply to settle but not to disappear. I then start with the outside on the lid. I use an Eco Tool mini eye brush, which is available as a set in Boots stores nationwide, to apply a black line on the outside of the eye from the outside corner of your eye to just under my eyebrow. I use the last colour on the right in the palette to create this line. With an eye enhancing brush from the Eco Tools range I use the fuller end of the brush to fill in the gaps and apply the rest of the dark shadow up til the middle of my eye.
I then start on the inside of my eye. I use three colours for this. Firstly I use the fourth colour from the left, the pale pink and colour in just the lid of the eye up til where the dark shadow starts. I then use the third colour from the left and do the same but then I apply it above the lid to meet with the darker shadow. I repeat with the second colour from the left of the palette. I then use a different and clean enhancing brush and blend gently the pink into the black. I work my way inwards until the colours are smoothly blended. You may add the darker eye shadow on top if you wish to create a darker look. I then use another brush and smooth the outline of the dark shadow. Altogether this leaves you with a silver/ black colour for your smokey eye look.
To finish off this eye look, I use Miss Sporty 'Mini Me' eye liner, no. 010 Black Raven. I follow the dark shadow on the outside of the eye with the liner mid way and apply a flick at the end. I apply the eye liner 3/4 of the way on my water line. You can apply the liner on top also, however it sometimes it can be a bit much and give you an owl look especially as you are creating a black smokey eye. I also use Inglot's brown gel eyeliner no.90 when I am creating a brown or bronze smokey eye look.
Top finish the eye I then use Rimmel London's new " Wonder'Full Wake Me Up" no. 003 Extreme Black Mascara to complete the dramatic look! I absolutely love this mascara, it leaves your lashes feeling so refreshed and soft while staying clump free. The brush goes in slightly in the middle which allows you to get the same volume and look as fake lashes without the hassle of glue! In order to get this sort of volume, I use the brush on top of the lash and then under three times. I repeat this until I receive the volume I desire and then I repeat on the other eye. I also apply mascara on the bottom lash but gently to avoid getting mascara on the skin.
Once your eyes are complete, I contour using Seventeen's ' Define & Conquer' Contour Kit. Once I blend using Real Technique's Miracle Complexion Sponge, I then use a small amount of Collection's Ultimate Bronze Glow ' on my cheek bones. To finish and slightly soften this dramatic look I apply Rimmel London's Lasting Finish Lipstick ' Drop of Sherry', no. 57. Sometimes to keep the intense look especially on a night out I use MAC Matte lipstick ' Fashion Revival' using their Currant lip pencil to give it a more defined look.
So there you have it ladies, that is how I completed that look! As I said I am no professional but I am learning so I hope you enjoyed it and find it useful. Let me know how you get on!
So with the summer in full swing (I know outside it doesn't look like it) whether you have already been on holiday's or your time in the sun still has to come, it is the time of year were hairy legs are not acceptable!
Don't worry ladies, I got all of your wax needs and more covered here! On Friday I went to get my usual eyebrow wax as well as my lip wax and my first ever bikini wax! I went to my usual spot, Crystal Beauty Clondalkin, formerly known as Savvi Beauty.I have been going to this beauty salon for years and I absolutely love it!
It is a small place but that is what makes it so warm, inviting, relaxing and peaceful. There are always amazing candles lit (you all know how I am obsessed with candles) and calming music. The salon covers all of your beauty needs from waxing, eyes, threading, tanning, facials, holistic body treatments, nails, foot care etc. Don't worry lads they also have a number of treatments for you guys to enjoy! The treatments I have tried are waxing and nail treatments, all of which have been carried out to a fantastic standard by Crystal Beauty's beauty therapist (and jack of all trades) Kristine. Kristine is an absolute gem, so professional, friendly and I look forward to the chats with her as much as I look forward to being pampered!
Not only is this an amazing place but it is so affordable! With daily special offers such as Fiver Fridays and weekly/monthly package offers, you can be pampered from head to toe for just a fraction of the price of other salons! For instance, on a Friday to get my eyebrows and lip waxed as well as getting a simple file and polish on my nails the total is €15!! What a bargain! This is a great way to treat yourself and not break the bank!
For me, when I started to feel down I stopped treating myself, I felt like I didn't deserve to be pampered! This is definitely not the case! Yes a trip to the salon doesn't get rid of any bad feeling you may have, but it does help brighten your day up, make you feel a little bit better in yourself and boost your confidence! Crystal Beauty definitely does that and more! Below I have included the website link to Crystal Beauty, go and check it out, trust me you won't be disappointed!

Those of you who know me well, know that I love a bit of a pamper and a beauty session, but even more than my love of beauty I love a bargain! For me, this is an interest of mine that has helped me to relax when I am agitated and keeps me focused on something else other than my mental health. It reminds me that I am a normal 21 year old who gets excited over new face masks!
So I have decided to share this interest with you guys. This page will show all you lovely people how to get the salon beauty treatment but for a fraction of the price!! These days people think that the more expensive a beauty product tat it automatically makes it the best out there. Although in some cases this can be the case and hey I love purchasing luxury beauty and cosmetic items now and again, it doesn't mean that you can not get the same same benefits and that flawless look without spending a small fortune!
