Hi everyone and happy Monday!
Some of my regular readers may have noticed that the blog has had a slight revamp! It is still in the process, I am still changing things but for now the bulk of it is done, so I hope you like it!
As part of the revamp, I have decided to try and blog more in this section, fashion. Look I am no Kendall Jenner nor am I a fashion blogger, but I am a normal 'curvey' girl who also enjoys fashion, and one of the messages I quite often get to my surprise is will I do more fashion posts, so you asked and I listened! Also, for me when I was at my lowest, both fashion and beauty were the two things that helped me to get through my depression, I was able to express myself through it and in turn find myself again, so it makes sense that I try to include those two things in the blog as they are apart of my journey, which I love to share with you guys. Also, I don't know about you but I have always been and am still very self conscious in regards to how I look, my size and even my style. It doesn't help that everywhere you look on social media there are pictures on these beautiful stunning women with the most amazing figures. Don't get me wrong, everyone should be allowed to showcase themselves and be proud of who they are, however, in my own little brain that makes me very self conscious when putting up pictures on Instagram or even in wearing certain clothes! So with the revamp of the blog, I have decided to share more on my body insecurities and how they effect my mental health, but also I want to share some of my favourite outfits and pieces with you guys too, because after all fashion is how we can express ourselves.
For the ladies' day event I was so stressed about what to wear, mainly because I knew I was going to be on stage all day, so I wanted something stylish and comfy! To be honest however, I was dreading shopping for something because lately I have put on weight, despite my efforts to join weight watchers and to work out more, since May I have been working like crazy so I have been just eating whatever was handiest in between tours and shifts. As a result, I wasn't sure what would suit me or if I would find anything, which I know is crazy talk as in the past 3 years or so the selection of sizes in clothes is amazing. I asked my mam to come shopping with me as I knew she would give me her honest opinion, and to be honest we found an outfit pretty quickly!
Before going shopping I had it in my head that I wanted to wear a leather- look skirt, but as I said above, I was worried it wouldn't suit me. To my surprise, we found a skirt pretty easily and it really suited me. The skirt is from New Look and was €24.99. They also have it in different colours, picture and link of skirt below. (picture credit: New Look website)
The shirt I wore with the skirt is from H & M, I can't find it on their website now however, I found a shirt similar which you could pair with the skirt:
Although this is a different shirt to the one I wore, it is around the same price range at €22.99 ( link with image above, photo credit: H&M website). You can wear the shirt tucked into the skirt, but for me I am quite conscious with my stomach and the shirt sat quite nicely just above that area, so I felt quite comfortable in it! However, I am wearing this skirt for Christmas day, and I recently bought a top in Penny's to go with it and I will be wearing that tucked in, so it completely depends on the top and the style of it.
I teamed this outfit with black ankle boots which I bought last year in pennys, they were comfortable for the long busy day, but you could also wear nice black heels or even a boot with a skinny heel too.
As the shirt was quite detailed, I didn't need much jewelry, however I was very kindly gifted three beautiful pieces especially for the event!
Those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I am a HUGE fan of LD Charms. These pieces are all so unique, and recently Laura has expanded her collection just in time with the launch of her new online shop! She started with personalised bangles which are a beautiful gift idea, and now she has show stopping earrings and necklaces! Not only are her pieces incredible, Laura has been a huge supporter of mine and the blog since day one, and has donated pieces in the past for giveaways and also for the event itself! Laura sent up two gifts for me for the event, earrings and a beautiful H.O.P.E bracelet! I was already wearing a silver necklace(below) so I decided to wear the earrings on the day and I haven't taken the bangle off since the event! Thank you so much Laura, you are the most thoughtful and talented person I know, so thank you!! Here is Laura's New website: https://www.ldcharms.com/ and here are both pieces which she very kindly gave me:
Not only did she gift me the most fabulous personalised Hope bracelet, she also wrote me the cutest note in the world and with each of her bangles she includes a hand written note with the meaning for each charm!
The day before the event, my mam and dad handed me the cutest card and a beautiful necklace to wear for the event. I had wanted the necklace for so long and it was perfect for what the event mean't to me, as on the packaging it said " Let your Dreams Take Flight". The Necklace is from the Love Lift range by Holly Carpenter, link below:
So that was my outfit! My makeup was done by the fabulous Emily Morris and my hair was done by the amazing Lisa from Insane Manes, both ladies were there on the day of the event and did some demos for us ladies too! I hope you enjoyed this post and remember no matter what your size, height, figure etc., fashion is for EVERYONE and everyone's style if unique, and that is what makes fashion so great!!
Love as always,
Last weekend was concert central for me between Kodaline and Jess Glynne in Marley Park on Friday and then the Flawless lady, Beyonce, on Saturday night in Croke Park, mean't that there was be a lot of fringes, neon colours and mud! So here are the details of my festival look for Friday's gig, with some photo's before my wellies were slightly covered in mud, thankfully the weather wasn't too bad so I didn't have to use the power hose on myself after the concert!
The only time that it is fashionably acceptable to look like you walked into your wardrobe and came out wearing anything you could possibly find is at a festival!! However, despite the fact that it is acceptable to wear wellies and shorts, it doesn't hurt to wear a cute pair of wellies and a pair of tights! Due to the fact that I am just starting my weight loss journey and saving like crazy, (wedding savings comes first!), today's outfit is a mix of old and new bits and bobs and once again Penny's has saved the day as I got so much to revamp my festival wardrobe!
First off are my cute Chelsea Wellies, which for €9 are an absolute bargain! They're so comfy and in black they go with absolutely everything!! I picked up the short ones as they will go with a lot more, even a pair of jeans for a rainy day, lets face it when is it not raining in Ireland! To vamp up these plain boots, you could either pair them with a pair of funky tights, knee high socks or dare to go bare with socks showing just above the boots.
I find black extremely flattering, and another reason why it is a great pick as a base for your festival outfit is that not every spec of dirt will show on it, it will seem that you have managed to keep the mud away from you for longer! These shorts(below) are also Penny's best, they are from the Spring/ Summer collection this year and were a good staple buy for €13! They are definitely a steal buy as they will get you through the summer and are also perfect for a thick wooly tights, boots, heavy jumper and shorts combo!
Next up I picked up this cute grey top for €7 and a cute black crop top for €6 to go underneath to cover the gaps along my sides. Two other bargains as this grey top will be perfect with jeans or a pair of Harem pants for a boho look! To brighten up this look I picked up this cute Red bandana for just €2. If red isn't your colour they have various other colours and help to vamp up a casual monochrome outfit.
The key thing to remember about festivals or outdoor concerts is layers!! Layers are so important to keep warm because let's face it, in Ireland you can never be too careful! So this kimono (below), some of you may recognize, is one that has been in mine and my sister's summer wardrobe for the past few years, because it is so unusual yet the colours going through it makes it fashionable each summer. Last but not least I had a plain black rain jacket in my bag just in case, thankfully I didn't need it!
So there is a short but straight to the point breakdown of Friday night's cheap yet funky outfit. If you were out at the various concerts at the weekend I hope you all enjoyed yourselves!
Hi everyone and Happy Friday!!
The past two weeks lots of people have been asking about my outfit for my engagement party, I was a bit hesitant to blog about it as it is unusual from my usual posts however I love fashion and it is the one thing that I focused on when I was sick last year. So I have decided to share the details about the whole look including the outfit from head to toe, including the goddesses that worked a miracle with my makeup and my hair.
I'm a 1950's gal at heart ....
In life there are huge milestones in your life, for many people starting with communion, confirmation, the Debs ball, your college graduation, your big birthdays starting from the "big 18", your wedding etc, although they are all important for various different reasons whether that be for religion reasons, as a right of passage, etc., you can't deny that for a woman each of these occasions includes the questions "what did she wear?" So of course mine and Mark's engagement party was no different as I had a vision in my head for weeks of what I would look like, and it kind of worked!
In my opinion, the 1950's were an amazing time for fashion because NOTHING was too crazy, big prints were encouraged, puffy skirts were in and the bigger the quiff in your hair the better. I also love it because each year within the 50's the style dramatically changed and women grew more and more confident within their bodies, clothes and were better able to express themselves through fashion one woman in particular and one of my style icons Marilyn Monroe.
Dress makers and fashion designers in this period had an amazing eye for what styles suited what shapes and sizes, people realised that everyone wasn't a stick, and famous actresses and singers made everyone realise that no matter what shape you were you could be pretty, sexy and beautiful. As someone who lacks in confidence regarding my image, it is not wonder I love the idea of that decade!
The break down...
The main piece to the puzzle:
The key item in the mid 1950's was the dress and I am not surprised because this style is so flattering on almost any body type especially to those with a pear, hourglass or apple shape as this style of dress is designed to pull you in just at your waist, giving you a more defined shape than some other styles. Instead of hiding your curved shape, this pulls you in, in all of the right places while showing off your figure but not "over- showing" certain areas!!
The slight sweet-heart neck line adds length to your upper body while maintaining a feminine and girly vibe. Although I usually prefer sleeves due to bingo wings I love these straps because they aren't too thin so they are quite flattering.
Last but not least I LOVE the skirt on this dress. It comes out from the waist line but not too much once again redefining your shape and adding some fun to the dress!
The dress is from New Look at €40 and is perfect for a Spring/ Summer wedding or party.
As the dress was very full on and had a lot of detail and colours, I went for a block colour for my shoes. These sandal like heels have a simple strap, wide open toe and they aren't too high which meant I could happily dance the night away! I picked a deep lemon/ light mustard colour to bring out the yellow in the dress ( unfortunately the pictures don't do the colour in the dress any justice). I am not 100% sure how much the heels were, but I think they were between €22.99 to €29.99 in New Look.
The bag lady...
My love for handbags is down to my mam as she is and forever will be known as the bag lady! My bag to go with this outfit was in fact picked by my mam as a gift so I can't take the credit for it, however I do know it is of course a River Island bag so of course I love it! I love having a big bag because I bring everything but the kitchen sink with me no matter where I am going! The navy in this bag along with the white and lemon gives a sailor like feel to it and once again will be heavily used during the coming summer months. I love black bags, I don't know why I just love them, however navy is a nice change as it is a little brighter and will go with a lot of things!
Make me pretty!!
The most difficult part of the puzzle for me is always my hair and makeup! I have never done any course in beauty so I am fairly useless as doing my makeup for a big night out and as for my hair it is either down straight, curly or up in a big oul reliable bun!! I had in my head what I wanted for my hair so I just left it in the capable hands of Emma in Insane Manes in Greenpark Clondalkin. I don't let anyone else touch my hair as she is amazing and what I like about her most is that if she doesn't like it she will start all over again, I never leave her disappointed!!
Here is their FB page:
As for my makeup I didn't have any time to go to a makeup artist as I was working that day so my lovely sister arranged for the amazing Ivana Horan to do mine and a few of the girl's makeup. She is incredible, every single one of us were delighted with her and she was so precise with every detail, very creative with makeup and not too expensive either but worth every single pennys!!
Here is her FB page:
So there you have it, that is the break down of my favourite outfit EVER to date! I hope this answered all of your questions and that you liked it!

So it is that awkward time of year ladies were once again both the fashion industry and the Irish weather is forcing us to jump a season ahead and get into our Autumn Gear! For me this is an absolute nightmare as this year I am going on my Holidays in September which is very late for me. Usually by now I would have waved goodbye to my shorts and bikinis and would have a full wardrobe ready for the blustery nights ahead. However this year, I have bought Autumn coats before I have stepped foot on a beach and I am short a bikini for holidays!
Unfortunately the shops are always a season ahead and we have to stock up on all the goods for the next season before it's too late! I can not understand this at all, and these new styles makes it ten times harder for me to save for holiday's as I get too excited about new knee high boots! Well don't worry ladies because I have you covered! Not only is Penny's extremely affordable but it is fair to say that they definitely have you covered for the next season with their fabulous new stock approaching the Autumn/ Winter season!
From over sized jumpers, to cosy Cardies, to ripped jeans, to ankle boots, Pennys will definitely get you sorted for the next season without breaking the bank. With the seasons rolling all into one and arriving in the shops before one season is even over, it is so easy to sacrifice fashion for holiday expenses and trends. Not any more ladies as Penny's latest stock is by far one of my favorites so far this year! Everything is bang on trend while keeping your bank at a healthy level!
As fashion trends are always changing, the one thing I love even more than a bargain is a purchase that is going to get me through a few seasons as opposed to one, and oh I found my new stable piece for the next few seasons in Pennys! For just €18 how could I say no to this trendy take on box jackets! Not only is it extremely affordable but I can not get over how a perfect fit it is. For jackets of this style it is hard to get a perfect size match without paying a small fortune, but this little number fits me like a glove! It sits perfectly and still allows room for a nice light jumper or little dress to go under it. It is quite a light piece so it will be a perfect jacket for the rest of the summer (presuming we get sunshine) and will be perfect for around the shops or in the office for the cooler days ahead. The contrast of the yellow with the deeper colours of grey and navy give it that autumn/ leaf feel but will allow it to still be nice and bright for both the end of the summer and coming into Spring 2016. With the aztec print constantly coming back into style, this is a piece that will be knocking around in my closest for a long time!
The best part about this ladies is that this jacket has only come to Penny Stores nationwide in the past week or so, so get out to your local store and purchase this amazing, jacket you can thank me later!!
